Picture shows the band at last night's Scurlogstown celebration where more than 150 People enjoyed a night of music, poetry and song. Spotted there were Paul Kerr from Trim, Ollie and Brigid Doherty , Joe Regan from Rathmoylon, Rosemary Swan from Kilmessan , Noel French ,and all the members of the Olympiad. I got the chance to read two long poems 'On Being Politically Correct' and 'On the Wagon. both of these poems are on the Bard of Armagh DVDs. All in all a great night

Meath Books Follow Tommy Murray on Irish Writers Onlinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10631576810036567825noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6319207821575810259.post-10956308374406954782012-10-19T11:02:00.000-07:002012-10-19T11:02:15.911-07:00Meath Writers Christms DVDA meeting of the Meath Writers Circle will take place in The Trim Castle Hotel on Thursday 25th inst for the purpose of completing the Christmas DVD. Writers are being charged for services that they could easily do themselves. Take the copyright law for example where in some cases these print/publishers retain as many as thirteen copies and for local consumption manuscripts that don't in fact need all these . Then there is the ISBNs and the Bar codes. What ever the need for these by virtue of the proposed market the prices are too high. The only answer is to shop around and if your book is just for local consumption then dispense with a lot of the extras especially the promise to sell copies online
Peggy herself read some of her poems and John Byrne told jokes for what was to be a wonderful evening of entertainment. The music was supplied by Paul Hennessy and tea and sandwiches were put on by the hostess Helen. It was great to see so many members of the Meath Writers Circle there and it was even better to see that Peggy had very few if any copies of her CD left when the night was over. With less than four months since it appeared it still has plenty of time to catch up. It is unlikely however, that any of these will come anywhere near the two thousand nine hundred copies of "Meath Voices that were sold in the first year and are still available on Amazon WHsmith and Blackwells and Eason's. I dont have figure for "Counting Stained Glass Windows" but my very first poetry collection," Something Beginning with Spring" which was published in the early eighties sold three hundred and thirty in the first month.
My folk and Ghost Story collection is now with the publisher and is being chopped and changed as new stories come in. It is all so bloody boring.
The following list is in chronological order
Delighted to announce that two members of the Meath Writers Circle, myself and Frank Murphy received certificates at a function in the Star Restaurant in Swords last night. The occasion was the annual Poet of Fingal Competition hosted by Swords Pride of Place in conjunction with Swords Heritage festival. The top prize for poetry this year went to Cork while the top prize for the Short Story competion went to Chicago. The Poet of Fingal is defdinately one of my most successful competitions having won the top prize on four occasions and coming third once as well as getting several certificates
This week sees the last issue of the famous Dandy Comic. First published by Thompsons of Dundee in the late nineteen thirties and featuring such well loved characters as desperate Dan and Corky the Cat
